Tyr, the deity of justice, law, and warfare, serves as the divine guardian of order and truth, ensuring the fulfillment of oaths in times of both conflict and peace. Regarded as a prominent figure in Norse mythology, he is a courageous and potent warrior who may bestow victory upon those who invoke him. Every aspect of warfare, from treaties to battles, is influenced by the presence of Tyr.

With his formidable yet enigmatic sword, Tyrfing, the valiant Tyr stands proudly in Asgard. Although he does not feature prominently in many ancient sagas, he plays vital roles in a select few. In the saga of Hymiskvida, Tyr is introduced as the son of the Jötunn Hymir. Together with Thor, they journey to Hymir's abode to obtain a massive kettle for brewing an enormous quantity of mead, a venture that inevitably culminates in a battle with numerous fallen Jötunn.

The second, more elaborate tale recounts Tyr's pivotal role. When Fenrir, the wolf, was but a pup, but growing at an alarming pace, the gods of Asgard convened secretly. Aware of Fenrir's role in Ragnarok and fearing for their existence, the Aesir devised a cunning plan. They intended to bind the wolf using a special dwarven chain known as Gleipnir, enticing him by framing it as a game he could easily escape. In the end, Fenrir agreed to be tied if one of them placed their hand in his mouth.

None of the Aesir possessed the courage for such a gesture of trust, except for Tyr. The god of law and war courageously inserted his hand into Fenrir's mouth as the others began to secure the wolf. When Fenrir realized he was deceived and could not break free, he bit off Tyr's hand. Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to justice and law, Tyr willingly sacrificed one of his hands without flinching or hesitation. This act stands as a testament to his unyielding belief in the principles of law, as well as his dedication to safeguarding the Nine Realms.
